Meet Bosco de' Medici: Rethinking the Wedding Venue Model

At Bosco de’ Medici, weddings are not approached as standalone events, but as fully integrated experiences. In this conversation, Margherita Di Somma shares how they built a destination model rooted in consistency, operational clarity, and a deep connection to place.

At the foot of Mount Vesuvius, Bosco de’ Medici has evolved from a wine estate into a fully integrated wedding destination. Here, they share a perspective shaped as much by structure and discipline as by design and atmosphere.

  1. Who are you? Tell us about your brand, your journey, and the vision behind your work in the wedding industry.

We are Bosco de' Medici, a wine resort and estate nestled in the heart of Southern Italy, at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, just steps from the ancient ruins of Pompeii.

Our journey began with a deep respect for the land, its vines, its history, and its culture. What started as a hospitality project rooted in wine production and local tradition gradually evolved into something more ambitious: a fully integrated wedding destination where venue, gastronomy, wine, and event coordination are not separate offerings, but a single, cohesive experience.

Our vision has always been to create weddings that go beyond aesthetics, celebrations that are authentic, structurally sound, and deeply connected to the place that hosts them. We believe a wedding should reflect not only the couple's story, but also the soul of the land where it unfolds.

2. Where are you based and which markets do you currently serve? How has your presence evolved across local and international markets?

We are based in Pompeii, in the Campania region of Southern Italy, a location that carries extraordinary historical and cultural weight. We currently serve both the Italian domestic market and a growing international clientele, with a particularly strong presence among couples from the United States, the United Kingdom, and across Europe.

Our evolution has been deliberate and gradual. We began by establishing ourselves locally, building a reputation for quality and reliability. Over time, as destination weddings gained momentum globally, we repositioned ourselves to meet that demand, refining our operational model, strengthening our communication in English, and building partnerships with international wedding planners and agencies. Today, Bosco de' Medici is recognized not just as an Italian venue, but as a destination in its own right.

3. How would you define your positioning today? What makes your brand truly distinctive at this level of the industry?

Today, we define ourselves as an integrated wedding ecosystem, not simply a venue, but a complete platform where every element of the experience is produced, managed, and refined in-house. What makes us truly distinctive is the rare combination of estate identity, agricultural heritage, and operational precision. Our vineyard produces wines served at our events. Our kitchen draws from the estate's farm-to-table philosophy. Our coordination team manages the full production cycle from first inquiry to final farewell. This level of integration means that nothing is outsourced in the traditional sense, quality is controlled end to end. In a market where many venues rely on external vendors for everything, we offer something different: consistency, coherence, and a singular vision carried through every detail of the day.

4. Winning a WEMA Circle Award is a remarkable achievement. What does this recognition mean to you? How did you feel when you were announced as a winner?

Winning a WEMA Circle Award means a great deal to us, not simply as a trophy, but as external validation of a path we have been building with discipline and intention for years. This recognition speaks to something deeper than visual excellence. It acknowledges our commitment to structure, consistency, and long-term growth in an industry that often celebrates style over substance. When we were announced as winners, the feeling was one of genuine pride and collective gratitude. It was not a moment for one individual — it was a moment for our entire team, for the couples who trusted us, and for the partners who have been part of this journey. It confirmed that the direction we have chosen is the right one.

5. In your opinion, what sets a winner apart in today’s wedding industry? What does excellence look like from your perspective?

Excellence in today's wedding industry is no longer defined by beautiful imagery alone. What truly sets a winner apart is the ability to deliver consistently, across different couples, different seasons, different levels of complexity. It is the capacity to manage emotion and logistics simultaneously, to hold a creative vision while maintaining operational clarity. From our perspective, excellence means building trust: with clients who are planning one of the most important days of their lives, and with the professionals who rely on you to execute flawlessly. A true winner is not the one who produces the most spectacular single event, but
the one who raises the standard with every event they deliver.

6. What impact do you believe your work has had on the industry? Have you contributed to shifting trends, expectations, or standards?

We believe our most meaningful contribution to the industry has been demonstrating that operational rigor and experiential beauty are not opposites, they are inseparable. In a landscape where the focus has often been on aesthetics and visual storytelling, we have consistently advocated for the importance of what happens behind the scenes: integrated management, clear communication, structured workflows, and long-term professional relationships. We have worked to shift the conversation from "how it looks" to "how it works" and ultimately, to show that the two are deeply connected. A flawlessly run wedding is also
a beautiful one, because nothing falls apart.

7. How do you see the role of WEMA Global in shaping the future of the wedding and event industry? What makes this community unique on a global level?

WEMA Global occupies a unique and essential position in the international wedding industry. In a market that is increasingly globalized, where planners in New York collaborate with venues in Italy, and couples from London marry in Campania, the need for a shared language of quality and professionalism has never been greater. WEMA provides exactly that: a framework for elevating standards across borders, connecting professionals who share a commitment to excellence regardless of where they are based. What makes this community truly unique is its focus on vision and dialogue, not just networking. It is a space where ideas are exchanged, benchmarks are raised, and the industry is collectively pushed forward.

8. What have been some of the key challenges throughout your journey? And how have they shaped your growth and mindset as a leader?

One of our most significant challenges has been the transition from a locally oriented hospitality model to a fully positioned destination wedding estate serving an international clientele. This shift required far more than a change in marketing, it demanded a complete restructuring of our operations, our team, our communication standards, and our service
model. We had to learn to think in different languages, literally and figuratively: understanding the expectations of American couples, the working styles of international planners, the legal and logistical nuances of hosting guests from abroad. These challenges have made us more
disciplined, more strategic, and more humble. They taught us that growth is not linear, and that every difficulty, if approached with the right mindset, becomes a tool for refinement.

9. What continues to inspire you at this stage of your career? Where do you find creativity and motivation today?

Inspiration, for us, lives in the intersection of people and place. Every couple who chooses Bosco de' Medici brings a unique story, and finding the way to weave that story into the fabric of our estate, its vines, its architecture, its light at golden hour, is a creative challenge that
never grows old. We are also deeply inspired by our team and by the planners we collaborate with, whose perspectives continuously push us to see what we do through fresh eyes. At this stage of our journey, motivation comes from a commitment to refinement rather than reinvention. We are not chasing something new, we are deepening what we have built, and that pursuit of continuous improvement is, in itself, endlessly motivating.

10. What’s next for you? Are there new markets, projects, or ambitions you are currently exploring?

Our immediate focus is on consolidating and deepening our international presence, particularly within the North American and Northern European markets, where demand for authentic Italian destination weddings continues to grow. Beyond geography, we are investing in the development of more immersive experiential formats that fully integrate our wine production, hospitality, and event offering: from exclusive pre-wedding wine tastings to curated guest experiences that allow couples and their families to truly live the estate, not just visit it. We are also committed to building deeper, more structured partnerships with global wedding planners, relationships built on trust, shared standards, and long-term vision rather than one-off collaborations.

11. Looking back, what advice would you give to professionals aspiring to reach this level of recognition?

Build your foundation before you build your image. In an industry that rewards visibility, it can be tempting to focus on what the world sees before you have fully developed what happens behind the scenes. Our advice is to reverse that priority: invest first in your systems, your
team, your processes, and your values. Treat every collaboration, with clients, with vendors, with fellow professionals, as a long-term relationship worth protecting. Consistency is more powerful than brilliance, because consistency compounds over time. Recognition, when it comes, is simply the reflection of discipline applied day after day, event after event, year after year. Trust the process, and do the work.

Ultimately, this conversation allowed us to better understand their approach that challenges a familiar narrative within the industry, shifting the focus from momentary impact to long-term reliability, showing that what truly defines a wedding is not just how it looks, but how seamlessly it is delivered.
