Some travel as a couple, others as three, four, or even five. Life’s milestones no longer follow a set script: nowadays, people fall in love, grow, become parents, and then choose to say “I do” in a place that tells their story.

A destination wedding is no longer just a romantic escape, it has become a family journey, where love is celebrated among colorful suitcases, children’s laughter, and shared sunsets.

According to a survey by Brides.com, around 40% of couples choosing a destination wedding decide to include their children in the celebration. For many, bringing the kids along adds an extra layer of meaning to the most important day of their lives.

Thanks to family-friendly resorts and venues, this is now easier and more stylish than ever. Connecting rooms, personalized menus, play areas, and child-focused services allow parents to enjoy romantic moments in peace, while little ones embark on their own adventures in a safe and stimulating environment.

The honeymoon, too, is evolving: it is no longer just a romantic getaway but a way to experience love with those who are part of it every day.

The Global Travel Trends Report by American Express reveals that 58% of Millennial and Gen Z parents plan to travel with their extended family in 2025: the familymoon is officially the new standard of luxury.

Resorts are responding with designed solutions: private suites for the couple, children’s activities, and on-demand nanny services. Every family member finds their own space, creating the perfect balance between intimacy and togetherness.

A 2021 study (Saltos-Layana et al.) confirms this shift: new generations are seeking authentic, personalized, and participatory experiences, where having children present is not a limitation, but a true value.

The result is a freer, more genuine, and deeply shared kind of romance.

The New Trends in Family Weddings and Honeymoon

Couples who choose to marry with their children by their side are redefining what it means to celebrate love.

A study by MarryAbroad.co.uk reveals that 40% of couples marrying abroad already have children: weddings are no longer just about two people uniting, but about a family renewing itself.

The honeymoon is evolving too. Research by Prezola shows that 14% of couples now dream of a familymoon or buddymoon, trips shared with children, friends, or relatives, where happiness is measured by balance and togetherness.

The trend is confirmed by the Family Travel Association and New York University: family travel now represents 40% of global leisure trips, and multigenerational travel continues to grow.

Today’s romance is no longer about isolation: it’s about connection. It’s not exclusive, it’s inclusive, celebrating love in its most authentic and shared form.

Destinations That Combine Dream and Realit

Choosing a destination for a wedding with children is an art: it requires a place that is beautiful, but also welcoming, where beauty invites participation rather than creating distance.

In the United States, Visit Anaheim gave children a voice through Imaginagency, the first travel agency “run by kids.” The idea is simple and brilliant: letting the little ones create itineraries for families. This symbolic gesturereflects a shift in perspective: travel, like love, is something built together.

From the Greek islands to Tuscany, from the Algarve to the Balearics, and the French Riviera, many of the destinations featured on Zankyou are embracing this vision: places where romance and practicality coexist naturally.

In Portugal, for example, estates such as Quinta dos I’s or Monte do Ramalho welcome families with open arms, while resorts such as Vidamar Algarve or Corinthia Lisbon offer connecting rooms, kid-friendly menus, play areas, and childcare services. Elegant yet relaxed, these environments allow parents to enjoy comfort without sacrificing charm.

Here, even the little ones have a place in their parents’ love story and are often the most enthusiastic protagonists. For more family-friendly wedding venues in Portugal, check their Zankyou profiles: Quinta dos I's, Monte do Ramalho, Vidamar Resort Hotel Algarve, and Corinthia Hotel Lisbon

Today, a wedding is no longer just the union of two people, but a celebration of a family that grows and dreams together. Bringing children to a destination wedding or honeymoon means experiencing love in its most authentic form: sharing smiles, sunsets, and adventures that will remain in everyone’s hearts forever.
